CYCU Chang Ching Yu Memorial Library Multimedia Collection Development Policy

  1. In order to establish high-quality multimedia audio-visual material collection, satisfy the requirement of student and faculty regard to knowledge and learning resources, implement  the  concept  of  holistic  education,  and  enhance  cultural  literacy,  the regulation are made.
  2. Criterion of multimedia audio-visual materials including the following:
    a.   Entity of audio-visual materials including: Disc (CD), CD-ROM, Video CD (VCD), digital video disk (DVD), Blu-ray Disk (BD), etc.
    b.   Virtual of audio-visual materials including video data (VOD), audio-video database, internet audio-visual materials, etc.
  3. Source of collection
    a.   Recommendation of school’s faculty, staff and student.
    b.   Purchase recommendation from department and units
    c.  Various audio-visual materials reported and reviewed in magazine, newspapers, internet and other information resources.
    d.   Various catalogs from publisher and agent. 
    e.   Promotion product.
  4. Collection regulations:
    a. In accordance with “CYCU Chang Ching Yu Memorial Library Resource Development Policy” article five (5) about various type of materials collection policy.
    b. Content of audio-visual materials for wish list and order selection including: professional materials (teaching, language learning, publication learning, etc.) and knowledge, educational, cultural, general information of leisure.
    c. Purchase recommendation of multimedia audio-visual materials by patron should follow "CYCU Chang Ching Yu Memorial Library Book and Journal Recommendation Guidelines".
    d. If the audio-visual materials needed be performed for public, then purchase public performance rights or video on demand (VOD) version, and obtain public performance license; the remaining purchase home edition.
    e. Movie recommendation by patron, generally purchase the home edition; if need be performed in the course of teaching activities, then purchase public performance rights; In the case of X-rated or pure entertainment movie, Library should evaluate and make decision for purchasing.
    f. Audio-visual   material   with   home  version   can   be  upgraded   become  public performance rights if needed be performed for public in the future, with pay the additional fee.
    g. Library only purchase original of audio-visual materials, however if library has old video cassette, audio cassette or DVD collection with invaluable content, can purchase copyright of duplication to meet the actual needs.
    h. Foreign language audio-visual materials with Mandarin subtitle version is priority. 
    i. According to the policy, popular music and video materials is not collected.
    j. Acquisition  priority  of  audio-visual  material  with  same  content  but  different publisher is according to easy to save, small space requirement, and better quality.
    k. Unpublished multimedia audio-visual materials require author agreement or letter of permission to be collected.
    l. Audio-visual  materials  should  be  in  line  with  the  current  software,  hardware equipment, and popular hardware.
  5. The regulation shall become effective after approval of the library committee meeting and President of university.
