Introduction to《The Book of Esther》
‘Esther’is one of the scripture in Hebrew Bible (also called“Old Testament”) narrated Queen Esther rescued the Persian Jews from the national crisis in about 5th Century BC. This scripture is with 10 chapters, narrate the Queen of King Artaxerxes (identified as Xerxes I, r. 485–464 BC）falls from royal favour, and Hadassah（also known as Esther）is chosen to take place as queen. Afterward Haman formulates a plan to wipe out the entire Jewish population since Mordecai refused to obey his command. This plan is to be carried out on 13th day of Adar（between February–March）, and the crisis is dissolved since Queen Esther’s wisdom at final.
Purim, A festive Jewish Holiday
The day joyous celebration of the deliverance of the Jews in Persia as told in‘the Book of Esther’. On 13th day of Adar, there is a fasting day as the beginning of Purim. On 14th & 15th day of Adar, Listening to the public reading of‘the Book of Esther’, and sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor. Therefore, the day of deliverance became a day of feasting and rejoicing.

「以斯帖捲軸」由德國專精猶太歷史及聖經的學者 Falk Wiesemann 執筆。他依據德國漢諾威Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Library 所珍藏的 1746 年古老舊約書以斯帖記捲軸為本，考古研究並翻譯，以現代工藝技術及特殊紙張複製而成，全長 6.5 公尺，插圖精美完整，文意優美，由全球最知名的藝術圖書出版社 TASCHEN 發行。
《以斯帖記》簡述
〈以斯帖記〉是《希伯來聖經》（俗稱「舊約」）的經卷之一，內容闡述公元五世紀前在波斯作王后的猶太女子以斯帖對波斯境內的猶太人拯救。全卷分十章，分述亞哈隨魯（史稱「薛西斯一世」，公元前485–464在位）廢去王后另立，哈大沙（後來的以斯帖）被送入王宮並選上王后；後因臣僕中的哈曼對收養以斯帖的末底改不滿，設計要害末底改的宗族──波斯境內的猶太人，且從亞哈隨魯王手上獲諭令於亞達月（約二月至三月之間）十三日對猶太人下手，以斯帖以其智慧化解了民族的危機。
猶太節期中的「普珥節」
為紀念〈以斯帖記〉所述的歷史事件，即波斯境內猶太人蒙拯救一事而設立，亞達月十三日禁食一天，作為節日的開始。亞達月十四及十五日猶太人在教堂誦讀〈以斯帖記〉，相互饋贈禮物，並周濟貧寒之人。普珥節是尋歡作樂和大吃大喝的一天。
