| The basic assumption underlying social learning theory is that children learn and develop cognitively and affectively by observing others. We can treat social learning theory as a developmental theory because it views cognitive and affective development as dependent on the cumulative effects of three important events: (1) maturation of the child's increasing perceptual and physical abilities, (2) exposure to the increasingly complex verbal and physical behavior of models (parent, siblings, friends, teachers), and (3) an increasing ability to attend, recall, imitate, and be motivated. | ||
