The Stranger, the Baker's Wife, and the Fool

Once upon a time, a young stranger wearing old clothes was traveling through a small town and tried to find a place to eat breakfast. He asked a couple of street sweepers where he could find a restaurant. They told him that nothing was open this early except the bakery. So he went into the bakery and bought some bread and milk and other items. He paid the baker with some silver coins from a big bag of money which he tried to hide. The baker was glad to have his first customer of the day. But the baker's wife wondered why this person who was dressed so plainly had so much money. The baker asked the young man where he was going, but he only replied that he was going to visit the king and queen who lived in the next town. The baker's wife thought this stranger might be a thief and didn't trust him. After the stranger left, the baker's wife began talking to a friend about the stranger. Then they talked to a group of people who had seen him too, and they all wondered if he could really be the guest of the king. A leader of the group decided to follow the stranger secretly to the next town. Sure enough, the stranger entered the king's castle. Meanwhile the leader went to the guard of the castle to warn him of this strange person. When he asked the guard if he knew who the young man was, he answered, "Certainly, that's the prince coming home from college to visit his parents!" The man went back home feeling like a fool.
