| The inborn drive for identity is the engine that powers personality development. By a "drive for identity", it means the need each person has to know who he really is. This search is a lifelong quest. It starts in infancy, when you begin to form a personality as a result of your relationship with your parents. As you grew older, you expanded your relationships to encompass a wider and wider community of people, and you encountered increasingly complex social situations such as play groups, classroom, teamsports, dances, proms and marital ceremonies. Your personality developed as a result of these encounters as you continually attempted to solve the riddle of who you really are. | ||
