Money - or the lack of - is a lingering issue for college students when Valentine's Day rolls around. There are ways to display affection and love for significant others even if the students' wallets hold only dust and expired credit cards.
Cooking dinner is a popular solution for students who are short on cash. It is nice to have a more intimate atmosphere than at a busy restaurant.
There are other ways to make that special someone smile without breaking the bank account. Janea Patterson said she hadn't decided what she would do on Valentine's Day with her boy friend.
"I've got a few ideas like making him a card with construction paper, maybe go to the park, or go visit his parents because he likes it when I spend time with them. I think I may write him some love poems, too."
However, some students still said they tried to find money any way they could.
Eric Snider, a sophomore in school, said he had found many ways to raise the necessary funds for a proper Valentine's Day.
"You can go to the bookstore and turn in your receipt to get your rebate. You could probably squeak 15 bucks out of that. Then there's always recycling aluminum cans," Eric Snider said. " Asking parents for a loan might be another option."
Valentine gifts can range from flowers or stuffed animals to jewelry or lingerie. Valentine's Day is probably the most important day of the year for many college students.
Although many students embark on a quest for a perfect gift to buy, they said when it came to receiving them, the amount of money spent did not really matter. For many, quality time with another person was the most significant part of the holiday.
Eric Snider added that it shouldn't matter how much someone spent on their date. He said the best gifts came from the heart.

Returning students to the university were no doubt looking for the computer enrollment system that was promised by the administration during the fall semester. The university newspaper even ran an article explaining to students how the computer system would work and how much time students would save in the enrollment process. Waiting in line to get themselves enrolled used to be a lot of students' nightmare in the past.
Since that time the deadline was set in October of this year. It is now believed the system will not even be ready by then. What is the purpose for the administration to set a deadline even the administrative system could not keep?
If the administration is going to promise the fee - paying students a service, it should be provided within the time period that they themselves set.
It's not so much an issue of how students enroll, but how much trust is fostered by an institution that doesn't live up to its own promise.
