The buzzword of 21st century is globalization. In a broad sense, globalization means the expansion and intensification of linkages and flows- of people, goods, capital, ideas, and cultures- across national borders. Despite enormous benefits associated with globalization, anti-globalization sentiment is also high. This can be seen in massive street protests at the WTO's meeting in Doha, G-8 summit, as well as recent EU's meeting. (40%)

Effective managers such as Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com are essential to any organization's overall success, regardless of whether it is a global giant or a small start-up enterprise. Indeed, having talented people is so important to the success of a business that Fortune magazine includes "the ability to attract, develop, and keep talented people" as one of the key factors used to establish its list of Most Admired Companies. Since 1995, Jeff Bezos has developed several competencies that have enabled him to perform effectively in his company's top managerial job. A competency is a combination of knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes that contributes to personal effectiveness. People use many types of competencies in their everyday lives, including those needed to be effective in leisure activities, in personal relationships, at work, and at school. Specifically, there are six key managerial competencies that effective managers must possessed, and they are communication, planning and administration, teamwork, strategic action, global awareness, and self-management.
